The Rat Terrier Chihuahua mix is also known as the Rat-Cha. These designer dogs have become popular and are recognized by the American Canine Hybrid Club (ACHC) and the Designer Dogs Kennel Club (DDKC).
Chihuahuas are known for their loyalty and intelligence, but also for being temperamental and suspicious of strangers. They are therefore not the best dogs to have around small children. Rat Terriers on the other hand, are amiable and good with children. When good blood lines have been selected for breeding, this mix tends to take on the best characteristics of both breeds.
By training and socializing the Rat-Cha puppy, the aggressive tendencies of the Chihuahua will be lessened, and easier to manage. Introducing your dog to different people at home should minimize your its tendency to dislike and be suspicious of strangers.
The Rat-Cha will be roughly three times the size of a Chihuahua. As with all other Chihuahua mixes, Chihuahua Rat Terrier mixes are susceptible to the cold, due to its fast metabolism, small size and short fur.
Aggressive and pushy behavior should not be viewed as being cute and should be dealt with seriously, since a failure to do so may result in your dog believing he is the leader of the pack and display further dominance traits.
This Chihuahua mix will have less health problems than either the Chihuahua or the Rat Terrier.
